The Early Days

The club was founded in 1987 as the Beenleigh District Model Railway Club by seven model railroad enthusiasts, Ray Piffero, John Jackson, Barry Jones, Les Jones, John Monreal and Dave Phillips. Initially meeting at members residences the group was to create an exhibition layout in a caravan that had been donated to the group by Barry Jones, the layout was exhibited at the Brisbane Model Railway Show. John Monreal constructed an N scale exhibition layout that was also displayed by the group.  Following the amalgamation of local governments in Queensland the club was renamed Logan District Model Railway Club Inc (LDMRC) and relocated to premises at 76 Springlands Drive, Slacks Creek 4127.

The LDMRC is a "100% affiliated club" of the  National Model Railroad Association Inc. Australasian Region (NMRA-AR).  This means members must also be members of the NMRA-AR

Recent History

The club has constructed and currently runs two HO scale layouts and one N scale layout.  One of the HO scale layouts is modular and exhilbits at other clubs’ events and exhibitions on request.  All layouts are wired for DC and DCC operation.   A HO 12mm scale layout is under construction and due for completion shortly.

The club has a number of members interested in scratchbuilt modelling of locomotives, rolling stock, buildings and scenery, using a variety of mediums.  They have formed a special interest group under the auspices of the NMRA and meet weekly to construct models, learn modelling techniques and exchange knowledge.  They are constructing individually owned N scale modules with common specifications which will allow interchangeable dioramas.  The layout will be available for exhibitions and events.

Meetings are held as follows:

Members are encouraged to attend the club during opening times to run their rolling stock or work on club and individual projects
